The Kansas sun hits
my back, for fifteen years I served this
Town as its law
enforcement man
You know I’d, lock
‘em up or I’d shoot ‘em down
And as for ’ol
McKinneys’ boys well that's the best I could’ve done
You know they held
this town down and starved it to the bone
But since the day I
rode up in here you’d be proud to call it home
‘Cause I’m the law,
I got six appeals in each nickel plated round
Watch ‘em fall from
the guns of this law enforcement man
My time has passed,
so now I’m moving on, gonna head back down
To Carolina and
build myself that home
Gonna, head back
home, brother settle down, and try my luck with
Ginger Mae on that
Carolina ground
But the wire came
in, McKinneys’ posse free, and you can bet your
Bottom dollar
they’ll be gunning after me
‘Cause I’m the law,
I got six appeals in each nickel plated round
Watch ‘em fall from
the guns of this law enforcement man
You know they passed
down that old pardon, and went and sent
All McKinneys’ posse
free, now they’re gunning to get after me
Hell their aint much
a soul can do with two rusted pistols at the age of 43
The 12:05 train is
coming for me,
First I’ll try to
take down ‘ol George and settle up with Jarvis Magee
Then I’ll lead the
rest behind Five-Points barn,
And try my luck with
all of them under a burning Kansas sun
You know I needed
help to make a final stand,
But this whole town
spat back at me said get the hell out while you can
‘Cause I’m the law,
I got six appeals in each nickel plated round
The rise and fall of
this lonely law abiding man
I’m the law, got six appeals in each nickel plated round
